Tests at 60 Hertz As the Dutch grid is standardized at 50Hz, performing tests at 60Hz can be a challenge. Although most product standards allow a tolerance on the frequency large enough to cover the 60Hz with a 50Hz set up, customers might request to apply 60Hz in the test set up. Damstra developed a dedicated 60Hz distribution board for test set ups up to 10kA. The power is generated by an outdoor power generator which is set to run at 60Hz. Cables from the generator are led through the wall and are connected to the 60Hz distribution board. From the board the electrical power up to 400A is used to feed for example the current transformers or other power stations. This approach allows Damstra laboratory to be very flexible in building up a test set up and apply the correct electrical power according to the customers specification and in line with the product standard. In addition to have a 60Hz energy source, it is important to have measurement equipment which is capable to measure at a 60Hz. The data recorders of Damstra lab can be set at 50Hz or 60Hz.
