High current DC tests possible at Damstra Laboratory To avoid transformation between generation and consumption, DC grids are being developed. The systems and components used in these grids need to be safe and reliable. And although the power levels have not been defined yet, Damstra Laboratory is capable to perform compliance tests at the most common voltage and current levels. The Damstra Laboratory is equipped with a short-circuit generator in combination with a six-pulse rectifier to perform DC short-circuit current tests up to 25 kA for 1 second or 50 kA prospective currents. Voltage levels up to 1900 V can be achieved, short-time duration tests up to 1 sec. will be performed at any convenient voltage. For SC-breaking, making/breaking and arcing tests the some standard ratings are listed: Other values on request, at Damstra we welcome client specific test requests that are not as normally described in the international standards such as longer duration and multiple circuit combinations. For making and breaking capacities and operational performance capability tests according IEC 60947-3 the Damstra Lab is equipped with a direct-grid transformer connection in combination with a six-pulse rectifier to perform test up to 1500 V d.c.: Making-Breaking on switching components having a rated current up to 400 A for utilization categories DC-21, DC-22 and DC-23 and associated L/R of max 15 ms. Operational performance capability on samples having a rated current up to 1600 A for utilization categories DC-21, DC-22 and DC-23 and associated L/R of max 7,5 ms. For temperature rise tests of (mechanical) switches, disconnectors, switch-disconnectors and fuse combination units the Damstra Lab is equipped with a d.c. stabilized power source up to 2000 A continuously at a voltage level of maximum 15 V. For temperature rise tests on electronic switches, which has to be tested on the rated voltage, the values are on request. Print
